WIND WHEELS AND WAVES COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON 11 MAY 2015
Attendees:
Sue Coombs – Chairwoman
Mark Coombs – Secretary
Barry Cook – committee member
Darren Howells – Advisor
Alan Ritchie – Advisor
Apologies:
Sanne Wilmink
Ben Peters
The chairwoman, Sue, opened the meeting by expressing her thanks to Stephen Gregory for being treasurer of WW & W in an extremely difficult time for the club. He carried on single handedly and must be commended for his work for the club.
1. It was discussed whether Darren (Daz) and Alan needed to be members of WW & W to advise the committee for a short period of time. To save them the cost of joining it was agreed unanimously that this would not be required.
2. It was agreed that the club requires a new treasurer and social secretary.
Barry proposed Sanne Wilmink to be treasurer and Mark seconded this. Mark then proposed Ben Peters to be social secretary and Barry seconded.
3. As the treasury post is changing there will be the need for new signatories for the club’s bank account. The signatories will be Sanne, Barry and Dom from UFO.
4. An affiliation to the Weston Bay Yacht club was discussed. Members will be able to make use of the WBYC showers and toilets. The club is open from 8pm every Friday night for all to enjoy. SWATK have some Saturday nights booked and WW & W members will be invited along to these. All committee members agreed that this would be an excellent idea to bring the club members together. Sue proposed the affiliation with WBYC and Barry seconded.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
It was agreed that we need to request an up to date members list so we can start to liaise with all members. Sue will also request what is happening with the £5.00 which should be paid to the club when a member ticks North Somerset. WW & W is not written on her membership card and there is no £5.00 nominated on her membership form. It looks as though the club may not have received this money for some time. Also, it was thought that kite surfers may be unsure of ticking North Somerset as many of them do not realise that WW & W is actually a club as it has declined in the last year.
It seems that kite surfer members are keen to have a weather station on Weston beach. Barry informed the meeting that the local beach office will be moving into the Tropicana in the next few months so it may be that we can approach the council for a station on this building. This will be an ongoing discussion. Barry also informed that Luci Hortop will be leaving the beach office. Many of us have worked with Luci for years and will be sad to see her go.
A discussion was held about Brean beach use from October to April. SWATK has use of this beach and it was agreed that WW & W members will be asked in the future whether they would like to have access (this will be for land members) through an affiliation with SWATK as the Parish council will not allow any other clubs to use the beach.
It is evident that local kite surfers wish to run WW & W club so they can have a voice, a social club and closer links with SWATK. The committee will be working towards this in the coming year.
